High school guidance counselors play a central role in helping students access Early College opportunities. CCSNH partners with counseling teams to ensure that students who take courses on a college campus/online align with graduation and career goals. Another goal is to help students navigate the registration process and adjust to the demands of college coursework.
What should you communicate about?
Early College courses create a permanent college transcript
Students are held to college standards in grades, conduct, and attendance.
Students purchase their own textbooks for courses outside of the high school.
FERPA applies differently than in high school
Credits may transfer depending on institution
Students may take courses at the HS, online, or at a CCSNH college.
Students must register before the course's start date.
What are a counselor's first steps?
Go over all the details mentioned above and/or complete the form provided on this page.
Encourage students to complete registration early and verify eligibility with an Early College Coordinator.
Start an email chain with yourself, the student, and the EC Coordinator, and provide the student's transcripts and any available SAT and AP test scores.
Considerations:
Registration is not instant, and students should should start the registration process two weeks in advance in order to complete onboarding.
Students with accommodations should contact Accessibility Services pre-start date and verify eligibility
